Giving togetherEach year, people from all walks of life make generous donations to Shasta Regional Community Foundation. These gifts fund grants to dozens of nonprofit organizations working to address needs and seize opportunities in our communities. Together, we’re making life better in the North State. We invite you to read some of our stories of impact and hope. Promoting Health and WellbeingBorn in 1887, Josephine Taylor was a hard working mother of two who found fulfillment in life by helping others connect with their inner higher power. As a single mother Josephine opened her own employment agency in the Bay Area and used the building to teach a small group of spiritual seekers about personal growth and enlightenment. She wrote several books throughout her lifetime on spiritual subjects. At age 86, she moved to Mount Shasta and opened her home to individuals and groups who sought a deeper spiritual understanding. She passed on in 1995 at age 108. more>> Hard Work Produces an Inheritance of GenerosityErvin's charitable goal was that others would gain from the legacy of giving that he established through the Knodel Family Endowment Fund. He lived by the wisdom that he could not take his money or possessions with him. So, it was his desire to create a structure within which he could continue to give back to this community for generations to come. more>> Paul Rideout's Pyramids - A Practiced Hand and an Open HeartPaul Rideout sees art as the product of linking an idea with technique. To illustrate this thought, Paul likes to use his favorite quote by Leonardo di Vinci, “Where the spirit does not work with the hand, there is no art.” more>> Siskiyou Humane Society, Valuing Empathy, Respect and KindnessFor forty three years the Siskiyou Humane Society has been dedicated to instilling the values of empathy, respect and kindness not only to animals but to the children and adults who interact with them. more>> Take it to the Top with the Flag FundThe Enterprise Lions Club started the Keep Our Flag Flying Fund at the Community Foundation in 2006 in an effort to raise an endowment of $150,000 for flag replacement and maintenance. With over 1000 donations, the fund is only $25,000 short of its goal! more>> The Women's Fund, Seeking ChangeChange happens when those closest to the problem are engaged in the solution. The Women's Fund of the Shasta Regional Community Foundation started as a group of 10 women concerned with the persistent challenges facing women and families in the Redding area. The unique histories and community interests of these women fueled their passion to see change for the women in our region. more>> Healing Through HorticultureA garden is a powerful experiential tool that can connect people with science, nutrition, food production, ecological responsibility and community beautification. The Charlie Byrd Youth Corrections Center in Yreka uses the power of a garden to impact the lives of youth. more>> Benefiting the Students of Shasta and Siskiyou Counties ForeverIn 1999 KRCR News Channel 7 created the Academic Challenge as a way to provide a positive television program about the youth of Northern California. Today, the Academic Challenge no longer takes place but KRCR, in order to continue in the tradition of awarding scholarships became the initial donors to the new Community Scholarship Endowment with a gift of $8,000. more>> True Community Art - The Dunsmuir Mural“If tiny Dunsmuir can create something this beautiful, so can your community!” Those were the words of Helen Cartwright of the Dunsmuir Downtown Historic District Committee about the mural in downtown Dunsmuir showcasing the best of everything the town has to offer. more>> What Working Together is All About, Project Homeless ConnectIn May, 2009 Redding held its first Project Homeless Connect Day at the Redding Convention Center. Over 400 people came to receive a number of services never before available to the homeless under one roof. more>> Ivy B. Horr, Leaving a LegacyIvy B. Horr was a long-time resident of Glenburn in East Shasta County. While she lost her battle with cancer in 1982, her legacy remains through the Ivy B. Horr Medical Education Fund. Through this fund low interest loans are awarded to North State students pursuing an education in medicine. more>> Celebrating the Dorris Centennial with a SaddleConrad Koppenhafer, master saddle maker, created a unique saddle to celebrate the history of Dorris and teach the community about this rare form of art. more>> Learning and Growing with the Fall River Valley LibraryThe Fall River Valley Library is the pride of its community and the Community Foundation is proud to have partnered with it to bring the joy of reading and art to East Shasta County more>> Remembering Mildred Lucille DriscollA friend honors the memory of Mildred Lucille Driscoll by giving her portion of the Driscoll Estate to establish a legacy in line with Millie’s great passions—supporting people and animals in need. more>> Giving thanks... by giving backGrateful for the community that has embraced them and their small business, the Kohn Family established a scholarship program to give back to their community. more>> Investing in Burney High School studentsJoe and Esther Lawson committed to investing in the future of young people in Shasta County through a scholarship fund. more>> Keeping Northern California Veterans' Cemetery greenThe Community Foundation helped connect more than 600 groups and individuals to ensure continued care and maintenance of Northern California Veterans’ Cemetery. more>> |
